Long weekends, Tornadoes, Garden stuff, Motorcycles, and Summer School
"War is a racket" - Major General Smedley Butler, USMC
Greetings all!
I trust your weekend was sufficiently long and enjoyable. Since the last update we have been busy.
It’s that time of year again where we all somberly remember our countrymen who were killed way too young in places that most of us have never even heard of. My bad. We don’t do that in this country - we go to the lake. Or our favorite store to get deals on sheets or big screen TVs, or other crap we don’t need. That Busch Lite isn’t going to drink itself, am I right?
But enough of my anti-war hippie-ness. I mean, that’s not why we’re here.
First things first….
I have been working on the Work Table.
I got the deck on. I have also wrapped the deck with studs to pull everything flat, but I didn’t take pictures of that. I figured only so much “project porn” should be in a single post. But……then I remembered I don’t care….. so here’s some pics of the garden and the compost.
Tomatoes on the vine. We should be eating off them in a week or two. We have already been eating lettuce and cucumbers from our garden. This last one will be full of moar cucumbers and tomatillos soon. That Salsa Verde needs fresh ingredients. I figure with 18 tomato plants and about a dozen pepper plants of various types we should be able to can up plenty for the winter.
Here’s that badass compost thing at work.
Three weeks ago that was wood chips, oak leaves, and grass clippings. It works.
If you want to do this stuff too, you will need the instructions. Here they are.
I’m still required by law to tell you that if you buy stuff from our link(s), we receive a small commission. Buy it, ya’ cheapass. You know you want to. All the cool kids are.
Saturday I took the ‘lil missus off the pavement for the first time on her baddass hog. We did about 12 miles of dirt roads with like 3 water crossings. She did great. Only dropped the bike once. That water crossing must not get used much because there was a layer of like muddy goo on the concrete. It damn near took me down - I felt the back end slipping out from under me and goosed it to get out of the crap. This is why we wear safety gear.
Then we met the kids and went swimming.
For those who don’t know, most of the roads in the county aren’t paved. It’s kind of weird to see reflective road signs in the middle of buttfuck nowhere screwed to a tree. But, yeah, those are county roads.
The last week was kinda sporty around here for weather. Lots of supercells and MCS spewing their springtime havoc across Texas, Oklahoma, and the Midwest. This shit needs to stop. I guess it does soon. Then….hurricane season.
On Sunday morning around 0400 we were awakened by the Midland Weather Radio. Bad juju was on the way. Like were heading to the “Fuhrer Bunker”. For the second time ever.
But seriously..
A F3 tornado touched down outside of Mountain Home and bounced a couple of times. The official death toll at this time in Marion and Baxter counties is 5. There was also a F2 that touched down about 8 miles north of us.
We hung out in the Fuhrer Bunker for about an hour and sweated our collective butts off.. ‘cause it was like 75 with 95% humidity in there. Afterwards we watched the lighting show over eastern Missouri 200 miles away.
We still go swimming four or five times a week. Its hot here now. We are planning on cooking dinner over a fire tonight down at the river. Should be kinda neat. We are thinking about making it like a weekly thing on Wednesday nights. Corn on the cob and chicken sounds nice.
The girl and the youngest started summer school on Monday
Remember this piece of crap? He wasn’t always making crappy police dramas.
The youngest signed up for nature school this summer…. so lots of hikes and swimming. The ‘Lil Princess seems to be in a “film studies” class. I’ll know more later. The oldest is now registered at Mizzu, yes, that Mizzu. Yeah, I know. Its gonna be good for him, and I look forward to the pie-in-the-sky Adjunct Professor that tries to push that crap on him. I wanna watch - just for funzies.
I guess that’s about all for this week. Oh yeah, one more thing - we should have Starlink next month. That rat-bastard Elon Musk finally got our satellite launched the other day. I know a guy who saw it go up. Seriously.
So ‘till next time, try and spend a little less time buying crap and a little more time asking questions of “our leaders”.
