Clickbait, new friends, fire, and pumpkin spice chainsaws
"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury." - Alexander Fraser Tytler
This is clickbait.
Yes, I just pimped out FarmDog© for clicks. They tell me that once you click on the page you are more likely to stay there, besides I already have the “click” for my stats. What can I say, I’m a cold hearted capitalist and an influencer.
Anyway…..
Greetings and welcome to September. The heat seems to have broken (for the moment) and the leaves have begun to change. Luckily this isn’t the Cascades where it’s going to start raining any second from now and the sun will return again next July 5th.
On to new friends. Look what we found the other day.
I guess we have scorpions. I grew up in California so it’s not that big of a deal for me. But yeah….bark scorpions are native here I guess. I would have preferred these kind though.
I would love to have seen them in concert, but a few years ago they did their “50 year anniversary” tour and I was not looking to see “rockers on walkers”. I don’t need to see Klaus Meine prancing around the stage in depends. But I digress…
The wife and I went out for a ride and cookout on Monday up in the hills outside of town. It was a beautiful day and the first day without the heat & humidity.
We found this little picnic spot the last time we were up there and had our little cookout lunch. I made stuffed mushrooms to go with the cheapie steak we picked up in town.
Unlike the west coast, fires are totally OK this time of year here, as everything is still green. So naturally, we stoked that bad boy up like we were going to hammer out some horseshoes.
No….it was small and in a ring, and reasonable and whatnot. I still remember this guy….
Oh wait…. I mean this guy
But seriously….. keep your fires and your government under tight control. better dead than red, ya dig?
Here is a picture of some of the plums that the wife found on the property that we chatted about last episode.
Not too many this year because we just found the tree a couple of weeks ago. Next year will be more. She says they are good to eat and I believe her. I’m not the biggest plum fan and I’m already quite regular, so I don’t need them in my diet at the moment. I understand the plan is to mix them with another fruit and pump out some jam or jelly. Not really sure of the difference, that’s her territory.
On to pumpkin spice.
Here’s our first pumpkin ever from the garden. Next year will be bigger and more, but hey, pumpkin. It’s going to be that time of year soon, and white girls across the fruited plain will be buying anything made from this stuff and nutmeg. Score.
Now that the weather has begun to cool off we are back out in the woods clearing. The goal is to knock the woods back entirely about 75’ from the house, and then thin everything else on the property to a reasonable level. That should be easy enough right? its just 13 acres.
I’m also working on getting the wood stove setup in the shop for the winter. I’m sure there will be pictures of that for next week.
That’s about it for the week. I’m sure that there are a million things that I’m spacing on.
Catch you all next week.
Don’t you worry, I still have your meme here to slaughter sacred cows and offend your sensibilities. Of course, you may find it hilarious. Whatever floats your boat man.
