"There are two kinds of problem drinkers: those who drink too much, and those who drink too little" - Winston Churchill
Good morning.
It finally looks like fall around here. We are actually running the wood stove today as I write this. It’s still really nice outside most days, but you can certainly feel the chill. It’s kind of rainy today. We made up a batch of borscht and Nana Rogalskis’ blondukies the other night and we did fall things. That’s some serious eating right there.
Most of the leaves are gone.
Here is FarmDog© out on the north perimeter of the property. She is doing her Bundesgrenzschutz cosplay here. I’m fine with this.
There is a mist, the fireworm is coming tonight.
Here is a tree full of Turkeytail (Trametes versicolor) that we need to harvest.
I want to experiment with this mushroom
Not that kind of mushroom. Those are for later.
It’s actually supposed to have many medicinal properties. There are those who say that it may help with certain cancers. I would consider doing my own research on this if I knew anyone with cancer. I may be talking to someone here. By law, I’m not allowed to make any definitive statements on this topic. According to the FDA this is fake news - and they will go after your ass for saying it, but then again these are the people who will tell you with a straight face that ketchup is a vegetable. Just sayin. That was a Reagan thing by the way.

So….. what else is going on this last week…
I’m working on the next batch of drugs.
and by “drugs” I mean beer. I use codenames for actual drugs.
This is a batch of a Belgian style brew. For my brothers, I haven’t forgotten about you. It’s on my list of stuff to do. I figured I would send out a bit of both batches.
We started working on next years’ wood already. At this rate, I expect to have all of the wood for next year done by the end of this year.
I have been working on a motorcycle route that will take a feller from our place all the way to Hwy 60. Without pavement. About 55 miles north of here. I think I have it figured out. It works out to about 77 miles, and I started pre-running it this week. I took The Wife with me on the Gainesville to Romance stretch. How romantic. See what I did there?
If you were wondering, yes, my ass does look great in those pants. Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful.
The “roads” were a bit soft on this stretch. It looked like the grader had come through a day or so before we did. In some spots the soft dirt was about 6”-8” deep. I like that kind of stuff. Quite a few water crossings too. If the route works out, I will consider sharing the route. I may put together a route across the entire state, just for funzies. A multi-day ADV camping type trip.
Anywhoo….
Here is another picture of FarmDog©
She is still sporting her “don’t shoot me” fashion accessories.
The Wife sent me this little video clip that her Google overlords put together. It might give some folks the impression that we like to do outdoor stuff.
Not much else going on here.
One final thing I guess. I’m sure that most of you know that Monday was Veterans’ Day, or as they call in in the Commonwealth countries - Armistice Day. On the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, the shooting stopped.
If you know any veterans, particularly combat veterans, please don’t wish them a “Happy Veterans Day”. It’s most certainly not a happy day. Sure - there are happy moments they remember - but I don’t know a single guy who has “seen the elephant” that is happy to remember this. Acknowledge the day if you feel like it, but don’t call it happy.
To absent friends.
