Adventure Calls
“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” -J.R.R. Tolkien
Good morning party people.
There is a lot to discuss this week. But before we get into all of that, we need to do a tiny bit of housekeeping.
Yesterday some of you (and you know who you are) were given “founder” free memberships to “Ye Olde Blog”. As stated in season 1, episode 1 of this blog, the primary purpose of this is to give the family updates on what happens at El Rancho Pato de goma. I told you that you would never pay for access to this thing - and I meant it. If you are in the “circle of trust” and didn’t get the comp, call me or The Wife - you have the number.
This week I am activating “paid” posts.
Paid posts will happen and will be things of a technical nature - such as “how to build your own hydroponic growing system”, or “how to make actual sourdough bread” or “how to build solar power systems” or things like that. There is a value proposition here. We may even cover some more spicy topics….who knows? Some will pay, and some won’t. That’s fine. Everyone determines their own level of involvement in Project Mayhem. I will play with the format and the timing.
Remember all….blogs are temporary, Wu Tang is for ever.
It’s Ironic that paid stuff goes live on May Day. Never let it be said that I don’t exploit the working class…..
Anywho - back to our regularly scheduled post.
This past week a bunch of us decided to go on a walkabout in search of the elusive Morel Mushroom (Morchella Esculenta). We took pictures, of course.
AdventureDog© did really well for about an hour, but then had to go on leach after having to be chased down in the woods. Some people’s kids….I tell ya.
We didn’t find any Morels even though we were definitely in the right place. There were signs of rooting around the spots where they should be so the animals certainly ate well. We were out for about three hours, and will likely try again later this week. There has been plenty of rain (I mean shit….) and it will will warm up into the 70s again. If they are still fruiting that should do it.
We did see some other mushrooms and some pretty flowers though.
The last one is from the gardens. That is a really good sign. Biologic growth in the beds indicates that the soil is beginning to live.
On to gardens.
As some of you may remember, I began to hill the potatoes last week. The idea is that you build up material over your potato plants as they grow and they will produce more potatoes vertically in the hill as they grow.
As you can see, they are doing just fine in this location. Soon I will need to add even more material.
The oregano is doing just fine this season. It wintered over quite well. I expect to begin to harvest and dry some herbs beginning this year.
The tomato and eggplant plants are thriving and are almost ready to go into the ground. The hydroponic tower under construction next to it will be the topic of a paid post later. I am planning to produce enough lettuce, cilantro, parsley, and dill for the family right there. I’m still doing the calculations and printing a few parts for this design. I will also likely be selling these too.
Perhaps the AdventureDog Tracking System © may also be a paid topic too
As you can see, it’s been online without any input from me for almost 23 days now on solar power.
One more thing this week. A bit of history is being remembered right now. Some would in fact say “it’s a bit windy”. Some of you will get that. Most of you won’t. Blame your school teachers. Even less of you will understand what this has to do with it.
First person to “get it” and send me a message wins something. Not sure what it is yet, but it won’t suck.
Well, that’s about all I have for this weeks edition. If you are part of the inner club, or want to pay for access, you will see something else this week.
