4th Of July After Action Report
"Win if you can, loose if you must, but always cheat" - Jesse "the body" Ventura
Greetings all!
Luckily my phone crapped the bed this past week and took a bunch of pictures with it…so I’m going to be a little bit light on the images this week.
We are still here, with ten fingers and ten toes each (at least most of us). The fourth was beautiful. We ate brisket, potato salad & other properly American foods, we played with class 1.4 explosives…you know… church burners, finger blasters, whistling kitty chasers. That kind of stuff.
Then went home and slept the sleep of the truly free….and deaf. America.
Then it rained. It was awesome because the next day was literally 30 degrees cooler than Thursday, which had a heat index of 120 degrees. It was the hottest day of the year. It was like really nice for a couple of days.
Check out these flowers. They are from our front yard.
The garden (you should totally buy the book!) is in full bloom and I’m getting a few tomatoes every day. The cucumbers are not impressing the heckie-darn out of me, but I get a couple every week. I need to drop a few more trees this winter in the garden area. I should be able to do a garden update this next week, now that I can take pictures again.
I was out riding bikes with the wife on Saturday. She’s coming along nicely and actually did pretty good on the dirt this time. I think she’s starting to get her confidence. We ran into a guy (or rather, he ran into us) on an adventure bike and we may go riding with him and his wife. We get to be the “younger couple” in the group now. It might be fun.
Sunday we cleaned out the pantry, then got ice cream. Everyone enjoyed it. Except for me. Within like three minutes of me eating my cherry ice cream some dumbass wasp decided to jihad me driving down the road at like 50, and I lost the entire damn thing. I had to throw the remains out the window, and use my haji rag to wipe off the mess. I sincerely hope the little bastard landed at the bottom of the pile of sticky goodness and froze right there in the middle of the road. I tell ya, that keffiyeh has come in quite handy over the years.
I’m still required to mention that if you buy something from our Amazon page, we get a small commission.
Earlier this week Hurricane Beryl hit Texas about 50 miles away from where my Sister in Law just bought a house. Like closed a couple of weeks ago. Great timing, I know. Luckily they seem to be just fine, I guess it rained a little bit. Then it came inland, and right at us. It started really raining. It started raining Monday evening and rained nonstop until about 4-5 Tuesday evening. We got somewhere around 6 inches of rain. Like I said though, with the clouds and torrential rains over the past few days, its been like really comfortable. I think the high on Tuesday was like 75. I actually got to use a blanket on Tuesday night.
This week we resumed our Wednesday evening tradition of river and fire and dinner. Went to Hodgson mill. You remember us talking about this place.
We did kielbasa and a pasta salad this week. The river was quite a bit higher due to the rain, and was actually kinda cool. I can’t remember the last time I felt almost cold getting into a body of water. The lake is almost “body fluid” warm this time of year. I don’t care for it. This place however… its awesome! Everyone ate their fill, even Farmdog©.
Well, that’s about it for this week. I’ll be able to do a bit better next week. Until then, don’t let The Man get you down.
